LIGHTING DESIGN
Lighting is a constant companion to my work. Especially in the absence of scenic elements, in some dance pieces, lighting becomes the interactive component, the storyteller that creates spaces within which the story unfolds. Lighting can change the meaning of a dance profoundly and so I work very gesturally with it, and deliberately specific. Lighting is always another psychological counterpart on stage, it's never illustrative or random. The meaning lies in what is seen and what is hidden, from what angle the light is reaching the performers, if it is attacking or enveloping, caressing or confusing them, etc. Lighting is the lens through which we see performance.
