MASSAGE THERAPY WORKSHOPS
Listening Touch - - Massage and Bodywork Techniques for couples and friends'
Summary
This course will give you insights into the benefits and mechanics of giving a friend or loved one safe, beneficial, and enjoyable massages and bodywork.
Physical touch is the foundational element of human development, health, and culture. It can ease pain, reduce stress, strengthen the immune system, improve sleep, enhance learning abilities in many areas of life, decrease feelings of resentment, reduce blood pressure, anger and depression, increase trust between individuals, ease pregnancy, and deepen or revive intimate partnerships.
If you want to give someone a massage, it is important to know what do watch out for, and how to be safe. In this workshop you will learn massage therapy and bodywork techniques while deepening your understanding of anatomy.
Structure
Bring your partner or a friend to discover the healing power of listening and connecting through gentle movement and touch. We will reference anatomical models, imagery and practice therapeutic and empathetic touch. In each class we will learn a sequence to address the area indicated. You will only be touching or be touched by the partner you attend this workshop with. Most of the work is done laying on a massage table, some on the floor. The recipient will be either fully clothed in comfortable soft, clothing that does not inhibit movement, or dress down to sports bra and bike shorts.
Logistics
No experience necessary. You have to be free of contagious diseases to participate in this workshop. Please be aware that there will be a 'release form' and a 'consent to be touched' form that each participant has to sign.
Please bring layers of clothing to adjust to varying degrees of room temperatures or levels of comfort.
Please bring a set of twin sheets, non-perfumed lotion/oil, blankets, yoga mats, bolsters, etc...as you see fit to be comfortable laying down. Bring your own table if you have one (let us know if you do).
This workshop is not giving you a license to work as a massage therapist, it is only meant for private and personal benefit. This workshop is strictly for therapeutic and caring touch, it does not include sexual contact, and a participant who brings sexual touch into this workshop will be immediately excluded from further participation without refund.
Proposed schedule:
Day 1: head and neck
Day 2: spine and back
Day 3: arms, hands
Day 4: legs and feet
Day 5: sharing weight/simple contact improvisation exercises
Day 6: creative integration
We are open to addressing specific questions/requests from participants.
