'True Love'

This piece investigates the love between Lysander and Hermia. Hermia, seems to be the only character in the play that understands what love really is, and that most people are either not capable of real love, use love to get what they want, or are misguided in their ideas about the nature of love.

This section is dealing with Lysanders proposal to run away from Athens, leaving everything behind in the name of love, both of their complaining about how true love never had it easy, and Hermia's first thoughts about possibly being independent alltogether,  without Lysander. She realizes that love isn't as secure as it seems and that perhaps she is the only person she can really count on. She believes that men have broken more vows than women have ever spoken and so does leave with Lysander with some reservations...Later in the woods, when denying Lysander sex, he turns around and becomes enchanted with Helena. hermia ends up alone, ounished for her attempts to escape a system that pervades every last bit of her life.   She ends up pretty much alone, but also comes to terms with her choice to leave the city and explore the wilderness of independence. She gets a good glimpse of the inconstancy of human emotion.
